Hi, I’m from Perth, Western Australia. I’m in my 30’s and have been diagnosed with major clinical depression since my I was 17. About 3 years ago I worked with a chick who was a Schapelle supporter and had been to Bali 3 times to visit her and take care packages ect. She told me she no longer believed Schapelle was innocent after all that was coming out of the media. She said Schapelle had a book and that I should read it. Another worker lent me her copy of the book then she left a week later – I still have the book. I read half way through the book and decided I’ve had enough trauma and my own personal hell to live through – why do I want to read about someone else’s? The book still sits in a magazine file somewhere untouched.

I’ve seen the entire mass media phenomenon surrounding this case but have still found it highly unlikely that Schapelle is guilty. The level of attention and fame Schapelle has received in Australia especially, as a result of her imprisonment alarms me. People don’t seem to handle fame at the best of times.

I read Mercedes article in whatever magazine a couple of weeks ago and it was really the last straw for me. I simply cannot take it anymore, and it won’t go away. I come from a mental health perspective, and Schaplle (and her family) has been through enough. What she and her family have experienced is irreversible and will take years to come to terms with and rebuild from. She needs to be let out of jail.

Regards,

Black Dog (anjing_hitam)

Welcome on board. :)

Yes, it is an absolute nightmare: the cruelty is simply beyond comprehension. Please do join in the disucssion, and join whatever projects you are able (eg: Women For Schapelle).

Schapelle desperately needs every single one of us, and we are running out of time: but failure simply isn't an option.

Thanks for joining us...

Welcome Black Dog!

You'll be able to offer a great perspective especially to those who claim she's faking the mental illness. Glad to hear that you decided to make your own decision about Schapelle and weren't influenced too much by your former co-worker. That's happened before when so-called supporters have turned on Schapelle because she didn't do or say something they wanted her to. Basically they are attracted by the media attention and not Schapelle herself.

Glad to have you here!

No she’s not faking her mental illness – anyone faking a mental illness would (and are) actually mentally ill! Think about it! Believe me mentally ill is not a good place to be and there has to be something seriously wrong with you regardless to go down that path. Once one goes down that path it is a lifelong commitment to treatment and being well, you don’t just wake up one day and go back to life as you once knew it.

I also have concerns about the public’s perception and that they will now think Schapelle’s current mental state is a reflection of who she was before she went to jail, that they will say she was always crazy, because who in their right mind nonchalantly takes 4kg of mull in their backpack or boogieboad bag or whatever and hops la-dee-da into a plane to another country - Right!

So now the public can defend and say oh ‘hello’ there’s something seriously not right about this picture! But before they think yeah she did it. She’s dumb and she got caught! Sorry dumb and insane, crazy, loco or any other slang term ignorant peoples and the devils in the media choose and want to use are not in the same category for me.

Or the other scenario, that Schapelle is a super smart criminal mind and she’s done it all before and now she got caught she’s faking her way out of it! Again I will say; you can’t fake insanity to ‘get out’ of anything. Insanity is the bottom of the barrel.

The other concern I have is that people (the government included) might have a problem 'letting a crazy person out of jail'. They will say they’re scared; they don’t know what she’ll do ect…Please excuse my excessive use of the word insane, I merely try to mimic the minds and mouths of the ignorant community that are too lazy to bother to think properly.

This reeks of organised crime and cover up! It’s a handball case – hot potato – no one knows what to do.
